Vaccinated Persons Will Still Need To Be Quarantined

Basseterre, St. Kitts, January 7th,  2020 (ZIZ News)  Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws says whether or not a traveler entering the federation has received the covid19 vaccine, all persons must be quarantined for 14 days.

She was at the time answering a question posed the NEOC briefing on Wednesday.

“If an individual in the United Kingdom received any of the three vaccines and travel to St. Kitts, yes they would have to be quarantined for 14 days.”

Dr. Laws said there are some non-assurances associated with the vaccines that have prompted the federation’s health authorities to take this stance.

“The manufacturers of the three front runners or the vaccine candidates that have been rolled out, they are saying that the vaccine prevents you from getting severe disease and it prevents death from covid19,” she said. “That’s the assurance we have from being vaccinated with either of these three vaccines, however if an individual is vaccinated, there is no guarantee that the individual will not contract the disease and then there is no guarantee that if the individual contracts covid19 that they can’t pass it on to others.”

Every traveler will be in quarantine for 14 days and tested to ensure the virus is not present before being allowed to integrate into society.
