St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister sends message to Jamaican counterpart

ST. KITTS, MAY 26TH 2010 (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas regrets the loss of life in Jamaica and expressed confidence that the security forces will deal with this effectively.

“It is with much regret that I learnt of the recent developments that resulted in the loss of human lives and property in Jamaica,” said Dr. Douglas in a message to the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Hon. Bruce Golding.

Writing in his capacity also as Chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), Prime Minister Douglas told Golding that the security forces must be commended for the critical role that they continue to play in ensuring that calm prevails in the affected communities.

“I am confident that they possess the required expertise to effectively execute their duties in the face of the existing circumstances,” said the St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister.

The overall death toll from several days of violence in Jamaica’s capital rose to 49 on Wednesday after the country’s ombudsman said he had counted the bodies of 44 civilians killed in a police assault on an alleged drug lord’s stronghold.

The United States is seeking Coke’s extradition of Christopher “Dudus” Coke on drugs and gun-running charges.
