SKN Participates In ILO Conference

St. Kitts and Nevis is currently participating in the International Labour Organization’s annual conference –ILC- which runs from June 3rd to June 19th.

In a statement disseminated by the Department of Labour, it said that a delegation is headed by Sen. Wendy Phipps, minister responsible for Labour, and International Trade. Included are:

Shernel James – Labour Commissioner; Rhonda Nisbett Browne – Legal Affairs representative of the Nevis Island Administration; Astric Wyatt-Archibald – Department of Labour; Emile Ferdinand – Employers’ Representative from the St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce; and Precious Mills – Workers’ Representative from the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades & Labour Union.

Minister Phipps is quoted as saying “Our national delegation to the ILC is among over 4,000 attendees who represent Employers, Workers and Governments around the world.

“[Key issues that will be addressed include]: global employment practices and challenges; drafting and adoption of international labour standards in the form of Conventions and Recommendations; application of the said conventions and recommendations; workers’ and employers’ rights; and a coherent, people-centred recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.”

During the conference, the inputs, concerns and contributions of the various ILO Member States are facilitated by daily group meetings for attendees; plenary sessions; and geographical meetings for Governments of Member States.

This year’s ILC is being held virtually in light of the ongoing pandemic.
