SKN Joins Taiwan’s Allies in Supporting UN Participation

Her Excellency Dr. Mutryce Williams, Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, joined counterparts from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies in delivering a powerful letter to U.N. headquarters in New York on September 19, advocating for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the United Nations system.

The joint letter, addressed to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, was co-signed by the permanent representatives of Belize, Eswatini, Guatemala, the Marshall Islands, Palau, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tuvalu. Issued ahead of the 80th U.N. General Assembly debate, the letter called on the U.N. to uphold neutrality and resist Beijing’s political pressure to exclude Taiwan.

The allied nations emphasized that U.N. Resolution 2758 has been misused in ways that undermine peace in the Taiwan Strait and the broader Indo-Pacific region. They argued that the resolution does not preclude Taiwan’s participation in the U.N. system and should not be weaponized to bar Taiwanese citizens and media from attending U.N. meetings and events.
