Release of new electoral list in St Vincent and the Grenadines delayed one week

Kingstown, St Vincent — The Electoral Office in St Vincent and the Grenadines has advised that the list of names to be removed from the voters list would not be published on Friday June 19, as earlier announced.

According to supervisor of elections, Sylvia Findlay, the list will now be released on Friday, June 26.

Findlay had announced at a news conference earlier this month that just over 23,500 names are to be removed from the voters’ list, ahead of the upcoming general elections, expected to be held later this year. It will affect Vincentians whose national ID cards were issued prior to June 2005.

Findlay had announced that the names will be published in the media as well as in every constituency.

Persons whose names appear on this list have a 30-day grace period, after publication, in which to provide evidence why their name should not be removed.

In the 2010 general election there were 101,067 registered voters out of a population that in 2012 was estimated at 109,000. The total number of valid votes cast in 2010 was 62,805 (turnout: 62.33%).
