Ministry of Education hosts Autism Detection Training Sessions

(ZIZ News) — The Ministry Of Education recently hosted Autism Detection Training sessions under the supervision of Dr. Sheryl Rosin, a Certified Autism Specialist out of Maryland, USA.

Over the past 2 years, Dr. Rosin has visited the island but last week returned to host a refresher session.

The trainees met with students and parents in sessions focusing on using the method of play time to identify and work with children with Autism Spectrum disorders.

Dr. Rosin also held discussions with Ministry Of Education staff on developing an Early Identification Centre to work with children identified with autism especially at the preschool and early primary levels.

8 trainees gained certification as Autism Specialists following the week of training.

Since the training began in 2015, forty-five children have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Federation.
