Mad rush at Transport Centre for Smarter Card

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police were called to maintain a presence at the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre a short while ago after hundreds of people converged on the area.

Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) explained that the large number of commuters gathered at the location trying to make last-minute purchases of Smarter Cards.

The Smarter Cards allow students, seniors and other concession passengers to pay a reduced fare from the required $120 for adults.

“We were called here to ensure that law and order is maintained,” a police officer at the scene said.
