Forensics Unit Director Says Cold Cases Are Still Priority

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 22, 2019 (ZIZ News): Director of the Forensic Unit, Latoya Lake-Marshall, says her department will continue to work tirelessly to solve criminal cases that have gone unsolved over the years commonly known referred to as cold cases even more so during this period of peace in the federation.

Gun violence has reduced drastically in the past few months across St. Kitts and Nevis but the Director says several cold cases still have to be solved and she intends to do all that she can to help lessen the load.

Lake-Marshall said that quite a number of cases have already been solved but most attention is generally placed on the cases that are more current.

She said this is why her department is seeking to create a method of sharing news about solved cases with  the media.

Mrs. Lake Marshall said she is pleased that the Forensics Services Unit has developed a method that allows the department to focus on cold and current cases at the same time.

The Forensics Unit Director said persons must also remember that forensics is not “a magical process”. She said there are times when science is unable to help solve a specific case and investigators would then have to rely on the assistance of the public.

She also used the opportunity to remind the public that crime is everyone’s business, adding that helping investigators and sharing information can help to prevent incidences of crime from reoccurring.
