Development Meet vs Challenge Series

(ZIZ News) — The St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) has separated its Development Meet from the Challenge Series for the 2016 athletic season.

That’s according to the association’s Public Relations Officer, Evris Huggins, who, in an interview with ZIZ, said the Development Meets are primarily designed to help the athletes work on their forms and techniques.

“The Development Meets are going to more or less be before the scholastic championships so, all the meets that start before the scholastic championships, that is the TDC Interschool Championships and the RAMS Primary Schools Championships, will be considered Development Meets,” Huggins explained.

He said, “these meets will be geared towards having the athletes work on the technicalities of their events,” adding “It is more for the coaches to work on refining the athletes’ techniques.”

Huggins said the Challenge Series, on the other hand, will help athletes prepare for major championships.

“The Challenge Series would be more for like the 16 plus athletes because you know after the CARIFTA Games, it’s going to be a bit of a drop off for our junior athletes. Most of the athletes after that would be preparing for junior championships etcetera, which is a 16 plus championship,” Huggins said.

The first Development Meet takes place on Sunday at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium.

It will feature the high jump, shot put and the 100, 200, 400 and 800 metre events.
