Consultation On Raising Age Of Consent

BASSETERRE: The Ministry Of Social Development and the St. Kitts National Youth Parliament Association recently collaborated to host a town hall meeting to gather public input on a proposal to raise the legal age of sexual consent and marriage from sixteen to eighteen years.

The session was held at the Solid Waste Management Conference Room as part of the government’s effort to consult the public on the proposed change.

The forum featured presentations from key officials, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs, Azilla Clarke.

Attendees were given the opportunity to contribute their perspectives and pose questions to the panel during an interactive discussion.

This national dialogue forms part of the government’s broader commitment to strengthen child protection measures.

Officials say the consultation reflects an effort to ensure that policy decisions are informed by public engagement and are aligned with the best interests and welfare of the nation’s youth.
