Commissioners’ Conference to benefit the Community

(ZIZ News) — A conference for Caribbean police commissioners is expected to focus on strengthening community policing and adopting best practices for use within the region.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ian Queeley told ZIZ that the conference will bring together about 24 police commissioners from around the Caribbean, and experts in various police fields.

He said the schedule will consist of meetings for the commissioners and workshops for other police officers.

“We have a workshop that is specific to the St. Kitts Police Force, members of our community policing groups and so on, because we have already indicated to our media personnel Inspector Lyndon, David to contact those persons so they can interact with him. And the aim of course is to look at best practices and new initiatives,” he said.

ACP Queeley added that the workshops will extend to members of the community who play a vital role in reducing crime.

“There are quite a lot of persons who are laying the blame squarely at the feet of the police for the increase in crime. So, we at the police believe it is a shared responsibility that the community has its part to play. And we also know that parenting and other organizations within the community do have to fulfil those roles because prevention is better than cure,” he said.

The 30th Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police will be held at the Marriott Resort from the 11th to the 14th of May.
