ACP Queeley calls on Political Candidates to Encourage Peace

(ZIZ News) — The Police Force is calling on political candidates of all parties to help ensure a peaceful election season.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ian Queeley, made the plea while speaking about investigations into damaged political billboards belonging to the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.

He said the Force is appealing to the candidates, who they believe will have significant influence over their political activists.

“We also appeal to persons campaigning to tone down the rhetoric because we want this election to be peaceful and violence-free. We urge all political parties to impress upon their persons, please encourage the supporters not engage in this sort of practice,” he said.

He said as Election Day draws closer, the police are asking everyone to be politically mature.

“We live in a modern democracy and such we should govern ourselves accordingly and respect other persons’ political beliefs because this I believe will reduce the likelihood of confrontation,” he said.

Election Day in St. Kitts and Nevis is scheduled for Monday 16th February.
