Cocaine worth J$21m seized at Kingston port

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The police seized 15 kilograms of cocaine during a routine search with customs officers at the Kingston port on Saturday.

Reports from the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that about 1:40 pm, the team noticed discrepancies with the seal of a container originating from Suriname.

During the search, two black knapsacks were seen among cargos of rice. The knapsacks were checked and each found to contain seven parcels wrapped in masking tape containing cocaine weighing a total of 15 kilograms with an estimated street value of J$21 million, CCU says.

This is the third drug seizure in less than a week on the Wharves, as on Tuesday, November 11, the police seized 1,483 pounds of ganja (an estimated street value of J$5.2 million) and 69 pounds of ganja on Friday, November 14.
