CCLEC Executive Council Meeting in St. Kitts
(ZIZ)– Several high level officials in customs and law enforcement have wrapped up a weeklong series of meetings addressing various issues in the sector.
For the past five days members of the Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council Executive Committee have been in St. Kitts for a preparatory meeting leading up to their general conference in May.
During a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Chairman of CCLEC Tracy Kelly said their role is to address issues and challenges on a regional level.
“So we don’t focus on one administration we focus on how we can help all administrations in capacity building, human resource development, communications technology, integrity, and all of those things.”
CCLEC Permanent Secretary, Paul Hilaire said one of their priorities is ensuring that all customs agencies perform at the same level.
He added, “There are certain countries…they are not at the same level of development and through our training and development program we are able to provide assistance to those lesser developed administrations.”
CCLEC was established in the early 1970s as an informal association of customs administrations within the Caribbean region.
The membership comprises customs administration from the Caribbean and Latin America as well as Canada, France, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
